Meet Coach Burns

Hi, I am Brendan Burns or “Coach Burns”, a dedicated and passionate personal trainer specializing in children and youth fitness. With a strong background in sports and a deep understanding of the unique needs of young athletes, I am committed to helping children and youth develop their sport-specific skills while promoting overall health and wellness. Since completing my Sport Management Diploma, I have achieved many certifications, including: Personal Training, Nutrition and TPI Golf Fitness, among many others, while also garnering a plethora of coaching experience through local sport organizations and programming through the Regional District of Nanaimo.

I believe that physical activity is essential for the growth and development of children and youth. Through tailored training programs, I aim to improve their strength, endurance, agility, and coordination, enabling them to excel in their chosen sports. Whether it’s soccer, basketball, football, Hockey, or any other sport, I provide personalized coaching and guidance to help young athletes reach their full potential.

In addition to sport-specific training, I also prioritize the overall health and well-being of my clients. I educate them on the importance of proper nutrition, hydration, and rest, ensuring they have the energy and stamina to perform at their best. I create a positive and supportive environment where children and youth feel motivated and empowered to achieve their fitness goals.

Safety is my top priority, and I adhere to the highest standards of training and supervision. I closely monitor each individual’s progress, making adjustments to their training programs as needed. I also emphasize the importance of injury prevention and teach proper techniques to minimize the risk of injuries.

As a personal trainer, I am not only dedicated to helping children and youth improve their physical fitness but also to instilling lifelong habits of health and wellness. I strive to be a positive role model, teaching them the value of discipline, perseverance, and self-confidence.

I am also happy to work with adults, to help them achieve their goals. Many of the same philosophies noted above are very relevant whether working with children or adults. If you are someone who wants to find ways to be a healthier version of yourself, lets chat.

Kickstart Sports (Jan 17 - Mar 6)

5-7 years | 5:00 - 5:45 pm
Kick start your sport moves. Each week children will run, jump and play while learning fundamental movement skills that build confidence to participate in all sports.

First Down football (Jan 16 - Mar 5)

7-9 years | 6:00 - 7:00pm
10-12 years | 7:15 - 8:15
Huddle up it is game time. Players will get familiar with football skills such as passing, catching, running and kicking. All abilities are welcome.

Basketball 101 (Jan 17 - Mar 6)

6-8 years | 5:00 - 5:45pm
9-11 years | 6:00 - 7:00pm
12 - 14 years | 7:15 - 8:15
With a focus on teamwork and having fun players will be introduced to the basic skills for shooting, dribbling and passing.

Sports Mixer (Ages 6-10)

This multi-sport program introduces kids to football, basketball, baseball and soccer. Through games and activities, kids will learn physical movement skills they can use in all sports. There are two upcoming sessions: Sept 20 – October 25 and November 1 to December 6. Links below to register.

After School GYM

Join coach Burns for games, sports and active free play in the gym with friends. All grades welcome. Link below to register.

Off Season Football

10-14 years
Option 1 | Mondays 3:30 - 4:30pm & Saturdays 9:00 - 10:00am
Option 2 | Tuesdays 3:15 - 4:15pm & Saturdays 10:00 - 11:00am
9 Sessions total - $120 (Includes a t-shirt)

Kick Start Sports ( Ages 5 -7)

Each week children will run, jump and play while learning fundamental movement skills that build confidence to participate in all sports.This is the perfect program for team sport introduction.
